We travelled for while to get to this spot. Captain Bobby put us on a good spot for this size of Calicos. George got one more toad. By the way, we were on the hot bite of Bonito too.

Once the bite shut down Captain Moreno decided to make a move to the frontside of the island is search of some more yellows or calico bass. I don't know what you've heard about the bass fishing lately at Catalina but Captain Moreno put us on a bunch of fish that wanted to bite. The calico bass bite went wide open for a bit as every squid, leadhead, plastic or sardine that hit the water was getting bit. Randy with one of many nice calicos he landed.

Don caught like 15 calicos in about 16 casts with the leadhead and squid and plastics including this nice one.

We released most of the bass but the only thing we were gonna release on this nice eater sized calico was a jar of tartar sauce. You can't eat yellowtail all the time now. The bite went strong for quite awhile before slowly dropping off as conditions changed.

Pesky calico bass were swimming around attacking the squid as well and Brent was having trouble keeping them off his line. Tough problem Aye.

The morning conditions eventually slackens and the yellows backed off so the Captain decided to take a look around for more yellows or some calicos. The live squid produced again when we started nailing some nice calicos. Mike before releasing a calico that couldn't resist a well presented live squid.
