In
the
afternoon
we
checked
the
surface
bite
and
found
a
few
Calico
Bass.

We
shoved
off
on
time
,
baited
up
and
were
heading
for
San
Clemente
in
no
time.
I
grabbed
a
bunk
and
drifted
off
to
sleep
with
a
bad
case
of
Deja
Vu.
I
woke
up
to
the
sound
of
the
anchor
being
dropped
and
thought
it
was
all
just
a
dream.
But
oh
no,
it
wasn't
a
dream
because
there
they
were.
The
Pradin
Brothers
were
on
board
and
hooked
up
already.
I
fished
with
the
brothers
on
a
recent
trip
and
these
guys
threw
about
20
yellows
over
the
rail
so
I
wasn't
surprise
when
they
hooked
the
first
nice
calicos
of
the
day.

Vince
figured
he
better
get
on
board
and
work
on
his
skills
while
his
boy
Steven
was
busy
at
school.
Vince
brings
his
son
when
he
can
and
its
fun
to
watch
these
guys
duke
it
out
for
family
bragging
rights.
Steven
couldn't
make
it
this
time,
but
we'll
see
you
next
time.
The
calico
bass
and
bonita
bite
was
picking
up
steam,
so
we
were
hopeful
that
the
yellows
wouldn't
be
far
behind.

Chris
is
an
accomplished
angler
as
well
so
it
didn't
take
him
long
before
he
hooked
into
a
nice
calico
bass.

We
continued
catching
nice
calicos,
bonita
and
yellows
but
the
persistent
Clemente
sea
lions
caught
sight
of
us
and
had
a
field
day
stealing
are
sardines.
They
kept
the
yellows
on
the
outside
so
you
really
had
to
find
a
lively
bait
and
get
it
out
away
from
the
boat
to
get
bit.

Chris
and
the
rest
of
the
anglers
on
board
fished
hard
and
caught
alot
of
nice
calicos.
It
was
nice
to
see
so
many
of
them
released
as
many
anglers
on
the
boat
opted
to
return
many
of
these
slow
growing
fish
back
into
the
water.

Laney
wasn't
hooking
big
yellows
with
his
jigstick
he
was
up
on
the
bow
hooking
big
calicos.

Nice
colors
on
that
calico
bass
!!!
If
you
like
catching
calicos
you're
best
chance
at
catching
them
this
time
of
year
is
at
San
Clemente
Island.
Home
of
the
monster
Calicos!!!
Keep
a
few
for
the
grill
and
please
throw
the
rest
of
them
back.

Chris
never
hooked
the
yellow
he
was
looking
for
but
he
did
catch
some
really
nice
calicos
including
this
one.
I
figured
I'd
be
removing
backlashes
for
Chris
all
day
so
I
was
kinda
suprised
when
I
didn't
have
to
untangle
a
single
one
for
him.
I
think
you're
finally
getting
the
hang
of
those
baitcasting
reels
Chris.

Eugene
got
the
crack
of
things
and
hooked
up
this
toad.
As
I
have
observed,
Eugene
is
one
of
the
those
hardcore
fisherman,
a
veteran.

We
travelled
for
while
to
get
to
this
spot.
Captain
Bobby
put
us
on
a
good
spot
for
this
size
of
Calicos.
George
got
one
more
toad.
By
the
way,
we
were
on
the
hot
bite
of
Bonito
too.

Once
the
bite
shut
down
Captain
Moreno
decided
to
make
a
move
to
the
frontside
of
the
island
is
search
of
some
more
yellows
or
calico
bass.
I
don't
know
what
you've
heard
about
the
bass
fishing
lately
at
Catalina
but
Captain
Moreno
put
us
on
a
bunch
of
fish
that
wanted
to
bite.
The
calico
bass
bite
went
wide
open
for
a
bit
as
every
squid,
leadhead,
plastic
or
sardine
that
hit
the
water
was
getting
bit.

like

calicos
in
about
16

We
released
most
of
the
bass
but
the
only
thing
we
were
gonna
release
on
this
nice
eater
sized
calico
was
a
jar
of
tartar
sauce.
You
can't
eat
yellowtail
all
the
time
now.
The
bite
went
strong
for
quite
awhile
before
slowly
dropping
off
as
conditions
changed.

Pesky
calico
bass
were
swimming
around
attacking
the
squid
as
well
and
Brent
was
having
trouble
keeping
them
off
his
line.

problem
Aye.

The
morning
conditions
eventually
slackens
and
the
yellows
backed
off
so
the
Captain
decided
to
take
a
look
around
for
more
yellows
or
some
calicos.
The
live
squid
produced
again
when
we
started
nailing
some
nice
calicos.
